What Cancer, Loss and Recovery Taught Me About Human Strength

There are some people you never forget.

For me, four stories stand out: Tony, Prakaifa, a woman from Southern California and a woman hospitalized with two broken vertebrae. Their experiences unfolded differently, but each changed the way I understand suffering, emotional healing and the strength of the human spirit.

I want to tell these stories honestly. The people described here did not abandon medical care. In the two cancer cases, their doctors had already told them that the available treatments had been exhausted. What follows is my personal account of what I witnessed and what these women reported about their medical findings.

Tony: The Fighter I Trained

Tony was a former professional fighter whom I trained for two years. Fighters learn to endure pain, stay composed under pressure and keep moving when other people would stop. Tony had that strength.

But physical toughness can hide what someone is going through.

I did not know the full reality of Tony’s illness while there was still time to work with him. He died from cancer, and I have carried the pain of not knowing what was happening inside him.

I cannot rewrite Tony’s story. I can honor him by remembering that even the strongest person in the room may be fighting a private battle.

Strength is not always loud. Sometimes it is asking for help. Sometimes it is telling someone the truth about what you are facing. Sometimes it is allowing another human being to stand beside you.

Prakaifa: Given Six Months to Live

Prakaifa told me that after approximately a year and a half of medication and chemotherapy, her doctor said there was nothing more they could do and that she had about six months to live.

When we began working together, I focused on the emotional and energetic burden she was carrying: fear, trauma, exhaustion, hopelessness and the crushing weight of believing that her life was ending.

My training includes Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Timeline Therapy, Reiki, Huna and Pranic Healing. I used the practices within my training to help her work with fear, reconnect with hope and engage her own inner strength.

Following our work together, Prakaifa recovered, regained the weight she had lost and returned to glowing health. Over a year later, she had a healthy, strong baby. More than five years later, she remained healthy by the account available to me.

Her medical doctors had already ended the available course of treatment; she did not walk away from care to work with me, her doctors did.

Three Sessions, an X-Ray and a Biopsy

I later worked with another woman in Southern California. She told me that after approximately two years of medication and chemotherapy, her doctor said there was nothing more they could do. According to her account, he encouraged her to complete something on her bucket list and hold a farewell gathering with family and friends to say Goodbye.

We completed three sessions over roughly six weeks.

When she returned to her doctor, he performed new imaging and a biopsy. She reported that the mass had shrunk to approximately one-third of its previous size and that the biopsied cancer cells were dormant. Her doctor was impressed by the change.

Those were measurable findings reported after our third session, not a vague feeling that she was doing better. The work I did was instrumental in her healing.

A Woman With Two Broken Vertebrae

Another woman, whose verified comment appears on my website, was hospitalized with two broken vertebrae. She described the pain as unbearable. She could not get out of bed to use the bathroom and had been unable to sit on the toilet for weeks.

After one session with me, she reported waking the next morning with approximately 90% less pain. For the first time in weeks, she got out of bed, walked to the bathroom and sat on the toilet.

I am not claiming that fractured vertebrae physically fused overnight. I am stating the result she reported: a dramatic reduction in pain and a return of basic movement after one session.

What Emotional and Energetic Healing Can Do

Fear changes how we breathe, sleep, think and relate to the people around us. Trauma can leave a person feeling powerless inside their own life. Serious illness or injury can reduce someone’s entire identity to test results, appointments, pain and uncertainty.

The work I do is designed to help people release fear and trauma, reconnect with their inner resources and change the emotional and energetic state in which they meet illness, injury and life.

I have witnessed outcomes that were specific, measurable and deeply meaningful. I will not call them “maybe” or pretend nothing happened.

I believe the work I did was instrumental in their healing.

I also will not guarantee that another person will experience the same medical result.

What These Stories Left With Me

Tony taught me not to assume that a strong person will tell you when something is wrong. His loss reminds me to ask deeper questions, listen more carefully and never confuse toughness with invulnerability.

Prakaifa was not told there was “almost” no hope. Her doctor told her there was nothing else he could do and that she was going to die. The other woman received the same message: the available treatments had failed, there was nothing else her doctor could do, and she should prepare to say goodbye. Their later outcomes are why these stories remain so powerful to me.

The Southern California woman’s case reinforced my conviction that the energy-healing work I do is instrumental in producing those medically observed changes.

The woman with two broken vertebrae showed how quickly a person’s experience of pain and possibility can shift.

I wish Tony’s story had ended differently. I celebrate that these women experienced outcomes they had been told not to expect.

If You Are Facing a Serious Illness or Injury

Continue working with qualified medical professionals. My work is complementary and does not replace diagnosis, emergency care, oncology, imaging, surgery, medication or other appropriate treatment.

Sometimes taking back your power does not mean controlling the outcome. It means choosing how you will meet this moment, who you will allow beside you and how fully you will remain connected to your own life.
